Layla Angulo — Saxophone
Born in Louisiana, raised between Boston, Los Angeles, and Seattle, Layla began playing the piano at age five, the sax at ten, and was performing in jazz clubs in Boston at fourteen. Thione Diop — Djembe
Senegalese born drummer Thione Diop is now based in Seattle, Washington where he teaches djembe and sabar drumming, sabar dance, and performs frequently. Currently Thione is the lead drummer for his group Yeke Yeke. For more information on Thione, visit www.thionediop.com.
Alex Guilbert — Keyboards
Since his graduation from the University of Washington School of Music in 1994, Alex has embarked on a highly diverse career as a pianist, composer, and teacher. He has been an established member of Seattle's jazz community for years. For more information on Alex, visit www.alexguilbert.com.
Taryn Webber — Cello & Vocals
Taryn loves to rock! Since moving to Seattle from the East Coast in 1997 she has played cello, electric bass, and sang harmony with such musical groups as Swan Vestas, Going South, Graig Markel, and most recently, The Figure of Eight. Cari Carnahan — Vocals
Cari's true desire and goal with her singing is not for people to recognize her or what talent she may have, but that through her voice, people will be moved to understand that life is bigger than what we see and be moved to live accordingly. Cari is singing with the Seattle Pacific University band Unlimited this year and the performance schedule can be found online. Feel free to email her for more information about her music.
Walter Torres — Guitar
Walter was born and raised in Lima, Peru. At age 14, one of his grandfather's presented him with his first guitar, and he naturally began composing on this instrument. Walter recently composed, arranged and performed most of the songs on the Julio Ramirez album, and is involved in regular projects with Arturo Rodriguez. Walter is currently the lead percussionist for the Layla Angulo Latin Jazz Band. To learn more visit www.layla-angulo.com.
Pierre Crutchfield — Clarinet
An artist, writer, and producer of both music and film, Pierre utilizes turntables, woodwinds, and keyboards in much of his work. Co-owner of Soul Kitchen Studios and Vena Cava Records, he has collaborated creatively with Jami Attenberg, Craig Flory, Paul Moore, Crispin Spaeth, and Alex Guilbert in projects such as My Boyfriend's Band, Blind Monkey, Haze Brothers, White Lady and Figure of Eight. He also appears on two CDs (shock no par and Car Alarms and Crickets) with the band Octant—led by kinetic artist Matt Steinke—and is featured in the documentary Specimens.
Philip Seward — Percussion
Philip has played for over 20 years in various forms of music: jazz, R&B, rock, disco, new wave, techno, new age, funk, reggae, ska, country, blues, and classical. "As a musician, I am drawn to ARQUA [a group in which Philip plays] because of the intensity and passion of the other artists. It is my belief that every performance is a gift to share with others and the universe. Art is a blessing." Justin Verre — Berimbau
Just plays the berimbau, an instrument used in the Brazilian foot fighting art of capoeira. Justin has been studying and playing percussion for the last ten years. His passion for music and movement has led him to the beauty of the berimbau and the culture it represents. For capoeira intensives in brazil, contact Justin
Pat Laughlin — Trumpet
Pat began playing his trumpet in 5th grade back in Ohio and has been playing for over 20 years. Pat has continued to blow his horn to this day when enjoying time with some of his funkified groove master peeps in Seattle. When Pats not playing his horn or out being active he spends his time helping individuals secure funding for their new homes.
  Scott Christopher — Bass
Special guest bassist Scott Christopher is featured on the Instrumental version.
